working project (2026—)
Considering
the recent detention of the president of the Romanian Customs Authority,
and the fact that the name "Mihai Savin" has once again become significantly more visible online than it was when this project was
first announced, I am presenting the first 3D render of the bust.
The project
examines how a simple coincidence of names produces an involuntary
algorithmic competition between two unrelated individuals, where visibility,
reputation, and searchability become resources unevenly distributed by digital
infrastructures rather than personal agency.
A second
intervention appropriates the resulting media exposure by assembling
a video collage composed exclusively of every televised and online
news appearance of the other Mihai Savin following his arrest. The
work ends abruptly with my own logo and website, redirecting the
accumulated media attention toward an entirely different identity. Rather
than correcting the algorithmic confusion, the gesture deliberately amplifies
it, exposing the fragility of authorship, identity, online reputation,
and algorithmic indexing in an environment where search engines and
recommendation systems privilege names over persons. The project
ultimately treats algorithmic misidentification not as an error to be
resolved, but as a material that can be sculpted, manipulated, and
strategically redirected.Sample text. Click to select the Text Element.
